The Pilgrim and Puritan Heritage Tour

Saturday, Jun 9:  Depart from US on your overnight flight to London Heathrow.

Sunday, June 10:  Welcome to London!  Upon arrival, meet our tour manager, transfer by private motor coach into London and begin to explore the city’s unique neighborhoods.  We’ll check into our hotel, get settled and then join our fellow travelers at a Welcome Reception, followed by a table d’hote dinner.  London Hotel: Park International or similar

Monday, June 11:  This morning learn about London’s majestic past and fast-paced present on a panoramic sightseeing tour from South Kensington to The City led by BHT editor, Dr. Dana Huntley.  After free time for lunch, we’ll continue our exploration with a visit of Rotherhithe, the London port neighborhood from where Mayflower was crewed and set sail. We’ll stop in at The Mayflower Inn for a pint. This evening is free for independent plans, dining or the theater.

Tuesday, June 12: Today we depart London heading north and begin our exploration of the East Midlands. With stops along the way, our destination is the market town of Retford, Nottinghamshire, in the heart of the Pilgrim villages. We will enjoy dinner as a group.  Retford Hotel:  Best Western Retford or similar

Wednesday, June 13:  Today provides opportunity to explore the lovely surroundings of Retford.  After breakfast at our hotel, we willexplore the nearby villages of the Pilgrim congregation – Babworth, Sturton-la-Steeple, Austerfield and Scrooby. After a lunch stop at the Mayflower Inn in Scrooby, we take the short drive to Gainsborough for a visit of Gainsborough Old Hall, one of the best preserved medieval manor houses in all of England.  We return to Retford for dinner as a group this evening.

Thursday, June 14:  After breakfast, board the coach for a short journey to Lincoln. A bit of a walking tour will be followed with time to visit Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle. After free time for lunch, continue to Boston, via Tattershall Castle. Once among the richest ports in England, Boston became the epicenter of early Puritan migration to New England.  Explore on your own a bit followed by a group dinner. Boston Hotel: White Hart Boston or similar.

Friday, June 15:  Following breakfast, we’ll enjoy a walking tour of Boston: the Guildhall where Pilgrim Fathers were jailed in 1607, the “American Room,” and St. Botolph’s Church.  After time for lunch on your own, journey to Fishoft to visit the Pilgrim Fathers Memorial and Sibsey Trader Windmill.  Return to Boston for a free evening in town and overnight.

Saturday, June 16:  Today our tour of the countryside comes to an end as we journey back toward London. Time permitting, we’ll stop in Peterborough for a visit to Peterborough Cathedral.  We’ll arrive at our countryside hotel (Hilton St. Anne’s Manor in Wokingham) for a farewell dinner party this evening.

Sunday, June 17:  Private transfer by motorcoach to the airport for return flights to the US.
