Princess Anne in hospital after suffering "minor injuries" and "concussion"

Princess Anne, the sister of King Charles, has been admitted to hospital following an incident thought to be caused by a horse.

In a statement released by Buckingham Palace, they said: "The Princess Royal has sustained minor injuries and concussion following an incident on the Gatcombe Park estate yesterday evening. Her Royal Highness remains in Southmead Hospital, Bristol, as a precautionary measure for observation and is expected to make a full and swift recovery.

The King has been kept closely informed and joins the whole Royal Family in sending his fondest love and well-wishes to The Princess for a speedy recovery."

It's believed the 73-year-old was injured on Sunday evening, July 23, when she was out walking on her estate and horses were nearby.

Princess Anne's trip to Canada that was due to begin at the end of this week has been postponed. She will also miss the state banquet for the Japanese state visit on Tuesday.

The Princess Royal has a busy schedule of engagements which see her travel widely across the UK and overseas. Known for her love of horses and an equestrian career which saw her compete in the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games.

She earned her reputation as the "hardest working Royal" due to the sheer number of countries she visits. She was the first member of the Royal Family to visit the Soviet Union and is involved with over 200 charities and organizations in an official capacity.

As the second child of the late Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, she was third in line to the throne when she was born and she is now 17th in the line of succession.
