The secret is out, Princess Beatrice is engaged. While it was rumored she would need the Queen's approval, that isn't the case - here's why

Princess Beatrice, the eldest child of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, has been involved with Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi for a while and the pair are set to walk down the aisle soon. And thankfully there's one decision the young Princess won't need to consider while planning her wedding, whether or not her grandmother approves.

While there's no reason that Queen Elizabeth would say no to the pair's nupitals, after all Edoardo is Beatrice’s childhood friend and her mother is godmother of his younger brother, Alby, it's still a big deal that her permission is no longer required.

And it's all down to changes in the Royal Marriages Act which were made in 2013 and mean that Beatrice is excluded from the Queen’s sphere, as far as selecting her husband is concerned.

Under the Royal Marriages Act, members of the royal family have to get the Queen's consent to marry. Which is why Prince Wiliam and Prince Harry needed to run their choice of brides by the Queen. However, the most recent changes state that only the first six in line to the throne require the monarch’s approval before getting married.

This means that Prince Charles, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, Prince Louis and Prince Harry all need to ask the permission of Queen Elizabeth II before deciding to marry or remarry.

This change is a big deal for the Royals, after all Beatrice was set to be named Annabelle until Queen Elizabeth intervened and pushed for the young couple to call their baby Beatrice, after Queen Victoria's 9th child.
