This year's Oscars saw Britain have a respectable night, notching up five academy awards in total. While its far from the highest tally there's been, there were some big British winners on the night.

Olivia Colman was Britain's big winner, taking home the best actress award for her depiction of Queen Anne in The Favourite. The 45 year old proclaimed on stage: "This is hilarious. I got an Oscar. I'd like to thank lots of people. If, by the way, I forget anybody I'm going to find you later and I'll give you a massive snog." Colman also made sure to acknowledge fellow nominee Glenn Close, who missed out on the award.

London - born Mark Ronson was another big winner on the night, taking home the best original song award for Shallow from A Star Is Born. Lady Gaga, a co-writer on the track, celebrated with Ronson following his victory. The 43 year old songwriter and producer adds an illustrious Academy award to his ever-growing list of achievements.

Britain had other successes in the music categories, with sound engineer Paul Massey taking home the sound mixing award for his in Bohemian Rhapsody, while John Warhurst and Nina Hartstone won the sound editing award for their work in the film also.

Paul Lambert won his second consecutive Oscar for his visual effects work on First Man, a truly impressive feat. Lambert said of his second award: "My 15 minutes of fame seem to have carried on for another 15 minutes. This is a fantastic occasion in that we've been honored for the actual process, which we talked about endlessly. The fact we've been honored by the academy is truly magnificent."
