Norwich is a wonderful fusion of the modern and historic. As well as being the most complete medieval city in the UK with its stunning Norman Cathedral and Castle, it has a flourishing arts, music and cultural scene. It was also England’s first UNESCO City of Literature – this is a city of stories!

3. Crystal Palace, London

Perched atop a hill with sweeping city views, Crystal Palace is known for its namesake park. Vintage shops on Church Road sell retro furniture and clothing, while Haynes Lane Market has eclectic knick-knacks, and stalls at the weekly Crystal Palace Food Market are piled with produce and cakes. Family fun and a hint of underground culture are taking this lofty southern suburb to new heights.

4. Uppingham, Rutland

Enjoy shopping amongst honey-coloured buildings, steeped in history, in a distinctly charming English market town. Traditional country inns, stylish restaurants and cosy English tea rooms are dotted around Uppingham all vying to tempt your taste buds!

5. Slaithwaite, West Yorkshire

According to The Sunday Times, Slaithwaite might not win many beauty contests but this unsung mill village offers exactly what we need right now: big-city train links, sensibly priced houses, a homespun boho vibe, bracing Pennine countryside, and an eye for a good time.
