PUZZLER

Last issue we queried: “It was England’s last battle featuring opposing mounted knights in full plate armor. The king is dead; long live the king!”
On August 22, 1485, King Richard III met Henry Tudor in Leicestershire at what became known as the Battle of Bosworth Field. Many historians regard the event as the last proper medieval battle. Richard was ambushed and killed on the field. Advantage, and kingdom, to Henry Tudor, Earl of Richmond, who assumed the crown as King Henry VII.
Now, this is puzzling. The Celtic church received its death knell here, and this is where the vampire craze began. Good fish & chips, too.
Yes, do play the Puzzler with aplomb. Join a cast of many and play the Puzzler. Email your answer to:

Here’s a Tip
TIPPING IN BRITAIN ISN’T THAT TOUGH, but it does count. First, you never tip in a pub – either for food or drink. It’s just not done; after all, the landlord is your host. In restaurants, watch the bill. Many (but not all) restaurants, particularly in the cities, follow the European custom of adding a service charge to the bill–i.e., the tip is included in the tab. In that case, a few extra coins for pleasant service are generous and appreciated (and many Brits wouldn’t bother). Taxis, yes, 15 percent is pro forma, more is generous. In hotels, tip the porter a pound a bag for lugging to/fro your room, and a pound for any room service deliveries. And as anywhere, it is gracious to reward service personnel who go above and beyond the call of duty on your behalf.
Keeping in Touch

We are always delighted to hear from British Heritage readers–and to occasionally pass along the enthusiasms and travel tips you share. Our posting address is 19300 Promenade Drive, Leesburg, VA 20176. Most folk these days, however, conveniently email us at [email protected].
THANK YOU SO MUCH for your assistance! I know what I saw in 2009, I really loved. I enjoy my British Heritage. The only problem is, I really don’t know the areas and can’t relate to some things. Your map in the front with stories highlighted helps, but I really need to spend more time there to get a better understanding.
