There is little to be said about Prince Charles and Princess Diana that hasn't already been touched on. A documentary aired first in 2020, however, has revealed some surprising truths.
In 2020, Channel 5 released a documentary called 'Princess Diana, In Her Own Words'. The documentary has revealed some really surprising things about Diana and Prince Charles' relationship.
Jennie Bond is a Royal expert and was heavily involved in the making of the documentary. Bond was formerly a BBC news Royal correspondent and was a close friend of Princess Diana, who sought guidance from her after the death of her closest advisor Patrick Jephson.
In the documentary, Bond makes some big claims about how Princess Diana really felt about her divorce from Prince Charles.
Bond revealed that Princess Diana would actually have preferred to stay married to Prince Charles albeit stay separated. This would mean that the pair could do their Royal duties together, as Diana believed they still formed a strong partnership.
Jennie Bond had this to say ''Diana was pretty unsettled with the divorce, she didn't want the divorce, she told me, "It's not something I want".
'I think she felt somehow they could continue as separated but partners and parents to the two boys, and she really did try to make it work and she wanted to make it work.
'She found the day of the divorce extremely hard. She did go out, she was seen in public, but she was hurting badly. She told me that it was an extremely difficult day, but she went home and burst into tears.''
Bond's claims were backed up by an interview Princess Diana did with the New Yorker in which she expressed hope that her marriage would last the course. She said ''We would have been the best team in the world. I could shake hands until the cows come home and Charles could make serious speeches but it was not to be.''
Clearly, there is truth to Bond's statement based on this interview. Do you think it was possible for Diana and Charles to stay married? We're not so sure.
The high profile nature of Charles and Diana's life probably meant that a full divorce was best for all parties involved.
